Best Long Term Stocks To Own For 2014

IDFC bonds will have a lock-in period of five years. Post five years, these bonds will be traded both on NSE and BSE. At the same time, the company can also exercise the buyback option. Bond investors will get the income tax benefits under 80CCF wherein a maximum investment of Rs 20,000 would fetch tax exemptions to the tune of Rs 2,060 (10.3% of 20,000) - minimum and 6,180 (30.9% of 20,000) - maximum. This is over and above the existing investment limit of Rs 1 lakh. The company has already collected Rs 538 crs in the first tranche in December 2011.

The interest rates are lower than the previous issue as the coupon rates have to be at par with the yield on benchmark securities, and the decrease is in sync with the yield movement over the last month.

Recommendation: We believe that the tax saving bond issue from IDFC is a good long term investment opportunity as well as a tax saving instrument
for investors. As the interest rates are at the peak and the rates are expected to go down this is the best time to enter in the bond market and lock in investments at a higher rate.

Elsewhere,OpenTable (NASDAQ: OPEN  ) rocketed 48% higher afterpriceline.comsnatched up the reservation specialist for $2.6 billion. Priceline shares fell 3% on the day, perhaps a reflection of the steep premium it paid. The acquisition gives the online travel leader an avenue in the restaurant industry, as airline and hotel reservations have become highly competitive, and provides it with ready-set relationships with more than 23,000 restaurants. OpenTable generates revenue by charging restaurants $1 every time a diner makes a reservation through its system. Priceline has risen to a valuation of more than $60 billion, in large part due to acquisitions of companies such as Kayak and Booking.com, so OpenTable should continue its strong growth under its auspices. The news also sent shares of Yelpup 13% as investors speculated that the business-review site could be an attractive acquisition target, as well.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Chris Katje]

Shares of Craft Brew trade at $7.19, placing them towards the high end of fifty two week range ($5.62 to $8.92). Shares traded at $9.26 at the time of the sale of the Goose Island brand stake to Anheuser Busch (BUD). The company has improved since that time in its focus on its three core brands and is increasing shareholder value through new initiatives.

  • [By Nicholas Ward]

InBev (BUD) signaled on my radar after complications with the Department of Justice who had anti-trust concerns over InBev's plans to merge with Grupo Modelo. BUD's stock had been flying high, showing a strong upward trend and this news and the market's response (a nearly 10% fall in stock price) gave me an opportunity to buy into the classic American alcohol manufacturer. Since this purchase on January, 31 2013 at $87.06/share the stock has steadily regained and surpassed its pre-injunction price point due to meetings with the DOJ, Grupo Modelo and Constellation Brands (STZ) and the belief that a merger agreement could be reached. I thought that this was another example of an irrational sell off and happened to be correct (thus far at least).

  • [By Rex Moore]

The craft brewing industry saw 15% volume growth in 2012, while the big guys -- led by Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE: BUD  ) , SABMiller, and Molson Coors (NYSE: TAP  ) -- are watching their megabrands lose market share.
